Harry Kane has finally shed the label of perennial underdog. At 31, he is a champion for the first time in his career. With a move to Bayern Munich, the Englishman always knew his chance of a trophy was big and now, in the 2023/24 season, he has achieved his goal. The Munich club sealed the Bundesliga championship and for Kane, it was a long-awaited triumph.
The road to his first title
The path to the title was not an easy one. In the 32nd round of the German league, Bayern could have sealed the league victory had they defeated Leipzig. However, despite the team dominating the pitch, they conceded a goal from Poulsen in stoppage time which dampened the Munich side’s joyous anticipation. Harry Kane, who was in the squad at the time, had already prepared to celebrate, but a dramatic ending left him without the coveted trophy for several hours.
How had it been before?
For Kane, it was the last stage in a long road to the trophy. He could have been champion back in 2015 with Tottenham, but Spurs lost in the League Cup final to Chelsea. In 2016, the team was close to the APL title, but the championship unexpectedly went to Leicester. The most dramatic moment was the 2019 Champions League, when Tottenham reached the final but lost to Liverpool and Harry was unable to take his first trophy at club level.
