Ancelotti: ‘Madrid will always love me, but I can’t coach Real Madrid for life’
What happened?
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has officially confirmed that he is leaving the club on 25 May. The very next day he will start work in the Brazilian national team. The departure of the Italian specialist coincided with an unsuccessful season for Real Madrid – the team was left without trophies: lost in La Liga, eliminated from the Champions League in the semi-finals and could not go far in the Spanish Cup.
Coach’s words
Ancelotti said that the decision to leave was a considered one and was not only due to results. He emphasised that he had always felt the love from the fans and the respect of the club.
‘I never felt that Madrid didn’t want me. Madrid loves me. They have always shown me that feeling. And even though I will go to Brazil on the 25th, Madrid will always love me. I can’t coach Real Madrid all my life. It will end and there are many reasons for that,’ Ancelotti stated. He added that he is not making a tragedy out of the situation, ‘Maybe the club needs to change something. I’m not making a big deal out of it. A thousand thanks to this club. I will be a ‘madridista’ all my life. But this is a period that will soon be over.’
Future plans
Ancelotti will now focus on a new phase of his career – working with one of the world’s most decorated national teams.
